Audio platform Curio closes $9m Series A funding round
Curio, an audio platform that offers a curated library of ‘expert’ journalism, has closed a $9 million Series A funding round.
The round was led by Earlybird and featured participation from Draper Esprit, Cherry Ventures and Horizons Ventures. The new investment follows the $2m backing Curio received previously from Cherry, 500 Startups and private angel investores.
Curio has raised $11 million since being founded in 2016 by Govind Balakrishnan, an ex-BBC strategist, and Srikant Chakravarti, a former solicitor.
The platform enables listeners to access audio of the latest news and analysis. It currently has more than 50 publications on its app including The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and Financial Times.
Curio will use its new funding to strengthen its position in the U.S. and U.K. markets, while also expanding to other English-speaking parts of the world, including India, Australia and South Africa.
