’s purpose is to promote and encourage commercial enterprise in the UK by connecting early-stage high potential startups with its investor members.
It connects members to the best SEIS/EIS-eligible startup businesses founded by Royal College of Art (RCA) graduates. The businesses may be from any sector and can best be described as combining Design Innovation with Technology, Engineering or New Materials. While many of the startups presented by AngelClubRCA are based on patentable inventions, others are social impact businesses, luxury brands or fashion businesses. Examples include music technology startup, ROLI
, manufacturer of material technology, Concrete Canvas
, producer of sustainable leather alternative, Piñatex
, and luxury brand, Beau Han Xu
AngelClubRCA holds two to three company presentation events per year for which it selects the best startups emerging from InnovationRCA, the RCA’s enterprise and entrepreneurship Accelerator in Battersea. AngelClubRCA also hosts business breakfasts and networking events for its members.
AngelClubRCA provides standardised Investment, Service and EMI Option Scheme templates to its pipeline of companies to assist its members (although neither it nor the RCA provide investment advice).
InnovationRCA, receives up to 100 applications from graduating students and alumni wishing to start businesses each year. From these it selects the most commercial and incubates them for twelve months. During incubation, companies receive a package of support designed to help them scale rapidly. This includes business mentoring, assistance with recruitment, access to networks, IP support, access to the RCA’s making and testing facilities, investor readiness training and PR opportunities.
Membership of AngelClubRCA is open to UK-based self-certified sophisticated investors or high net worth individuals.
