Calling SportsTech Start Ups – Join the Spin Accelerator UK for 2019!
Loughborough University, the top-ranked university for sport in the world, is recruiting now for the second cohort of the successful Spin Accelerator UK programme.
The programme is delivered alongside Hype Sports Innovation with partners and fellow participants in Australia, Italy, Sweden and the USA – ensuring a truly global experience and some of the best possible opportunities for launching, validating and growing successful SportsTech companies.
Spin Accelerator is a 12-week programme of workshops, mentoring and introductions developed specifically to support nascent sport technology companies develop and grow. Up to 20 businesses will be invited to take part in a selection Boot Camp with a dozen going through to participate in the full programme. The programme will culminate in a demo day in front of leading investors, sports brands and members of the wider sports eco-system.
In 2018 the programme saw twelve teams comprising eight nationalities. Five of them raised over £1.5m between them in the three months immediately after the programme and over £3m in total funding to date. The programme finished with a demo day in front of 150 guests including investors and representatives of companies including Adidas, the Washington Redskins and Canal+.
Andy Staham, founder of Arion (https://www.arion.run) took part in 2018 found the progamme a real help for his business, which has an IoT device for runners, saying,

We see this as a spring board from which we can establish new partnerships and secure new investment in the company. We owe a big thank you to the SPIN Accelerator team and Loughborough University.”
Professor James Skinner of Loughborough University London and Director of the Institute for Sports Business, explained that the Spin Accelerator is a reaction to the emergence of the SportsTech sector,
“We are now seeing an increased number of innovative sport tech start-ups entering the sport marketplace and we want to offer our knowledge, expertise and networks to help them succeed.”
The selection Boot Camp will be held at Loughborough University London on the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford on the 12-13 April and the final demo day will be on the 28 June.
Applications close 29 March 2019, but those who complete early may get feedback to help them make the best of their entry.
