Future Worlds: Exhibiting the University of Southampton’s medical technologies
Medical spinouts from the University of Southampton’s Future Worlds incubator will be exhibiting ground-breaking medical innovations at BioFIT at the end of November.
As part of this initiative, Future Worlds Medicine, supported by funding from the UK’s Medical Research Council (MRC), helps the progression of translational medical research and entrepreneurial talent at the University into healthcare and pharmaceutical markets through inspiring events, support and a global network of mentors. Future Worlds will be exhibiting three of its medical technologies at BioFIT 2017 whilst also promoting the medical range of University startups and spinouts that it supports:
Trimunocor is a spinout from the University of Southampton and the MRC. It is combating neonatal chronic lung disease through a patented technology that synthetically produces large quantities of an essential anti-inflammatory protein. The product will also be suitable for the asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease markets, currently worth £30 billion annually.
Renovos is a new orthopaedic regenerative medicine business that offers a range of products, services and therapeutics for bone healing. The spinout, which is commercialising world-class research taking place at the University of Southampton, harnesses nanoclay gel technology for quicker, safer and more cost-effective bone repair.
SharkStream is a full body motion capture system, which allows users to accurately record and display movement without the need for a green screen or camera. Data fusion algorithms on each sensor combine accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer readings to report an accurate orientation of over a dozen nodes 100 times a second. SharkStream has applications in medical rehabilitation, as well as film making, performance sports, and many other industries.
Future Worlds Medicine is exhibiting at Biofit from Tuesday, 28 November to Wednesday 29 November, Stand B11 in the Palais de la Musique et des Congrès Strasbourg Convention Centre, Strasbourg, France. Media visits are welcome and can be arranged in advance to include interviews with Future Worlds Medicine lead Brigitte Lavoie and our spinouts.
