University of Surrey’s Angel Investment S100 Club Announces New Chairman and National Investment Platform

The University of Surrey’sS100 Club– the evolution of the Surrey 100 Club angel investment network – announces significant developments to attract more investors and technology businesses seeking investment.

Serial entrepreneur and business angel, Jerry Horwood has been appointed Chairman of the S100, which now operates under a new model, without any subscription fee for investors. Jerry has plans in place to create a wider, more collaborative network of investors, with more opportunities to share skills and sector expertise with the businesses receiving investment.

In addition, theclub has launched a national investmentplatform, extending the investment club’s reachbeyond the Surrey region. The S100 platform enables investors and advisers to view, engage with and commit to investment propositions as well as to share documentation and due diligence details with other investors. The platform also facilitates the many links the S100 Club has with other Angel networks and Angel funds, allowing strong syndicates to form to complete the investment round.

For entrepreneurs, the platform provides a showcase for their investment proposition, virtual coaching on legal and business requirements and well as a permanent solution for keeping in contact with their fund.

Jerry Horwood comments, “The S100 Club is the only angel investment network linked to theSETSquared Partnership– which is consistently ranked as the world’s top business incubator managed by a university. One of the great assets of the club is that we can ‘de-risk investments’. We have the ‘first pick’ of exciting start-ups and early stage businesses from a wide area that have been through a number of filters prior to getting to the pitch stage. This makes the proposition for the S100 Club angel investors particularly compelling.

“I am keen to use my tenure as Chairman to open up angel investment to a wider audience and position angel investing as a stimulating, important addition to more traditional portfolio investment. I’d ideally like angel investing to be viewed as an asset class in its own right. There’s a huge responsibility for the private investment community to stimulate the economy and I believe that angel investors are one of the keys to driving growth in this country.”

Caroline Fleming, S100 Club Director comments, “We are delighted to announce Jerry as our new Chairman. He has the perfect mix of entrepreneurial expertise and success, coupled with the business acumen and insight to lead the drive to expand our Angel investor community in 2018.The Club continues to seek interestedinvestors with all degrees of experience, looking to participate in funding opportunities or learn more about Angel investing. We always welcome enquiries from companies wishing todiscusstheir investment proposition.”

Founded in 2007, the S100 Club has an impressive track record in helping dynamic and innovative businesses to grow. The S100 Club helps selected new ventures get ‘investor ready’ with support and training and then gives them the opportunity to showcase to its investor members at five annual evening events at the University of Surreyand directly via theplatform. The Club has helped companies to raise over £75million from 50 pitch events.
